Ipswich Town are among several Premier League clubs eyeing USA striker Folarin Balogun. The 24-year-old front man has bagged twice at the World Cup so far off the back of an impressive 19-goal campaign for French club Monaco.
What's the background?
Folarin Balogun came through the youth ranks at Arsenal and went on to have loan spells at Middlesbrough and Reims before making a £25m switch to Monaco in 2023.
Why is he a target for Ipswich Town?
After an injury hit 24/25 campaign, he produced some fine form in the campaign just gone to be named the club's Player of the Year. Ipswich Town need to sign two strikers to compete with George Hirst up front next season, with one of them needing to be the main man.
What's the current situation?
As of 29 Jun 2026, Ipswich Town are 2nd in Championship, 84 pts, 23W-15D-8L from 46 games, recent form WDDWD. | Category | Stat | | --- | --- | | League standing | 2nd | | Points | 84 | | Goal difference | +33 | | Goals scored | 80 | | Goals conceded | 47 |
Ipswich Town are 11 points behind leaders Coventry. You could see why Balogun, a real all-rounder, might fit the bill. He's a former Reims team-mate of current Blues midfielder Azor Matusiwa, played well in front of new Town boss Gary O'Neil when Monaco lost 5-4 at Strasbourg on the final day of the domestic season, while the club's US owners might be keen to see a countryman becoming the team's talisman too. My understanding, however, is that he is not a player that is currently being discussed as the Blues look to bolster their front line.
